Comment(by sjoerd):
Well, using eth0 directly will allow you to communicate with people one
hop away. But not further.. What if all the nodes you can directly talk to
are suspended... (Actually for some purposes, the possibility to set the
ttl to something bigger then 1 but not so big that it covers the whole
mesh would be great)
Also the whole idea of the very fancy wireless chipset in the OLPC is that
the host can go to sleep as much as possible. And as your using eth0
directly, your packets don't get routed.. So to work each host would run
the program, so they can take care of routing. Which (should) block the
host cpu from going to sleep, otherwise stuff starts falling apart...
And the final downside. For salut i need the presence of nodes/people i
can actually reach over the normal mesh interface.. People outside my ad-
hoc cell are not interesting (actually in the user interface, i think it's
very confusing to see people who you can't talk too)..
Anyway. This is a bit unrelated to this bug, so i'm opening a new one
about the need for a new/better presence protocol for salut.
