 In short:

 When a plugin is connected, don't request the publish/subscribe channels
 and manipulate them, but do them in the NewChannel signal handler instead.
 Mostly just moving code around.

 Patch was reviewed by Rob and stood up to some testing in Joyride. Will
 make a release shortly.
