 Gabble delays returning from RequestChannel request until the roster has
 been received. The roster is huge and the network sucks, so this takes
 ages. In _connected_cb in telepathy-plugin.py, blocking calls are made to
 RequestChannel for the roster channels. These time out, and this seems to
 result in PS happily staying connected to a Jabber server, but never
 showing any buddies. Logs attached.
