 Well, first things first, the preview really needs to be stored in a
 canonical format.  Either we need to enforce this by returning an error if
 an activity provides a format other than .png (if that's preferred, and I
 think it is a good choice), or we need to convert other formats to the
 chosen format internally.  Regardless of how the thumbnail is created, the
 format needs to be standardized.

 To speak directly to the Record problem, I can see usefulness in updating
 the video thumbnail, for instance to show the current frame of the video
 if you stopped playing it midway.  This, of course, should only be done if
 the player intends to resume playback at the same timecode when the video
 is resumed again later, which would be cool.  On the other hand, I doubt
 there will really be that many videos long enough for such functionality
 to matter at this point.  In any case, we can't make any guarantees as to
 when thumbnails will be changed by activities, so the system really needs
 to handle it gracefully.
