 It's pervasive inconsistancy.

 Activities specify that they handle MIME types, but files arrive and
 depart the XO with type determined by file extensions.

 MIME types are acting as a lossy middle-man. You can not convert either
 way between MIME type and file extension without loss of information. This
 is not a safe transformation.
