Comment:

 OK, I *have* talked to lawyers, *despite* not having had time.

 They confirm my fears about other jurisdiction's laws around font
 modifications.  And the method of using digital extraction isn't actually
 what even US law requires: technically, you have to print out and re-
 digitize the outline for the font exception.

 Their suggested solution is just to include the copyrights on DejaVu; end
 of problem.
