 I was suggested to file a bug here so that you guys have a reminder.

 Summary: abiword does not currently support JPG (and others) natively,
 only PNG. What happens is that you are actually seeing a JPG being
 converted to PNG silently. This causes the following problems:
 - horribly large documents (file size; generally 5 times or more)
 - CPU/memory-intensive; past a certain point, documents will bomb the
 machine, and I would guess that converting JPGs to PNG also needs
 additional processing initially
 - there is no warning
 - etc

 I might be forgetting some stuff, but it's pretty much in the abiword-dev
 discussion (Hub added lots of info there)
