Comment (by AlbertCahalan):

 It's public domain. I created it in the USA (thus under USA jurisdiction)
 starting from the public domain output of the DejaVu font program. I
 executed DejaVu on FreeType, without use of Apple's patented hinting
 operations.

 (the font program output is not considered copyrightable where it was
 generated; the DejaVu font program license does not attempt to place
 restrictions on the use of the font program for any particular purpose;
 the bitmaps are NOT derived from the font program; get legal advice in the
 USA if you require it)

 There really isn't much program output left anyway. Pretty much every
 glyph got redone by hand via the gimp. Yeah, I edit fonts with the gimp. I
 had to create about half the glyphs from nothing. It took weeks to do all
 978 (870 distinct) glyphs that I have. There are 327 (256 distinct) glyphs
 in 15x30pc.psf.gz here. BTW, DejaVu has Pan-Nigerian characters that have
 lines 50% thicker than the rest of the Latin characters -- this needs
 fixing.
