 I tracked this down -- yes, the font size change happens when you call
 /bin/unicode_start, and we're calling it during boot from
 /etc/profile.d/lang.sh.

 Any suggestions on fixing it?  UTF8 terminals seem like a good idea, so
 keeping Unicode and changing the font size might be ideal.
