#1161: Sporadic SPI FLASH write failures
---------------------------------+------------------------------------------
Reporter: wmb at firmworks.com | Owner: wmb at firmworks.com
     Type: defect | Status: new
 Priority: normal | Milestone: Untriaged
Component: ofw - open firmware | Keywords:
---------------------------------+------------------------------------------
On a B2, I used the "flash" command and got a "Verify failed" message. It
happened after a "copy-nand" command but I'm not sure that is actually
relevant. The SPI FLASH part was manufactured by Winbond.

I had a serial port, so I diagnosed the problem to the fact that the SPI
FLASH status register contained the value 0xfc instead of the more usual
value 0. That value means write-protect. The previous attempt to "flash"
had not written or erased anything; the original contents of the SPI FLASH
 were intact.

I wrote the status register back to 0 and the next "flash" command
 succeeded.
