 Note that correct operation requires more than one gamma table. The first
 one goes from sRGB gamma to linear gamma. The last one goes from linear to
 whatever the LCD requires.

 In between the two gamma table lookups you place operations that will
 cause artifacts if not done on linear data:

  * the filter to prevent color artifacts
  * the conversion from sRGB primaries to whatever the LCD requires
  * the conversion from color to greyscale

 When you do update the ASIC, please also address the filter problem
 described in bug #1017.
