 These really shouldn't be depending on Sugar or whatever. They should just
 work.

 They should work when in Open Firmware, when in LinuxBIOS, when in GRUB,
 when the kernel is just starting, when the laptop is taking that first
 picture, when in any app, when at the Linux console, when shutting down,
 etc.
