 When the backlight is off, text or graphics rendered as color shows a
 diagonal stripe pattern. The quality can be much improved by switching the
 DCON to b/w. Currently this can be done manually (Alt-F5/Alt-F8) but IMHO
 it would make sense to do it automatically if the backlight is powered
 off.
