 The case for H.263 is that Fedora includes it already. I agree that
 distributing something patent-encumbered would be a blow, but the flip
 side is that it would be a boon for interoperating with other clients. On
 the other hand, if OLPC only has Theora, that could be an incentive for
 other people to get their stacks working with Theora too.

 It would be really good to get numbers on bandwidth use for different
 codecs -- my understanding is that you can expect bandwidth = 1 /
 complexity, so I'd expect H.261/smoke/mjpeg to use more. These guesses are
 no substitute for actual measurements, but I'm not sure how you'd go about
 measuring bandwidth usage reliably.
