 Kim, I think that this is exactly correct for the ''entering'' case, but I
 think the ''exiting'' and ''re-entering'' cases might be different.  There
 is no use case for a rotated screen in laptop mode, since the trackpad and
 keyboard naturally orient the screen, and so I'd suggest automatically
 returning to "default" here, rather than requiring manual interaction.
 Also, I do think that it's also a good idea to keep a per-activity (or,
 perhaps even per-instance) preference for the preferred orientation in
 handheld mode.  This doesn't make any assumptions up front for the child,
 but assumes that once they make a choice they'd like to stick to it, at
 least until they explicitly make another.

 Also, as a side note, the orientation preference naturally requires the
 automatic return to default orientation in order to function.
