We need to set some standards for interaction with handheld mode. For
instance, we probably want to make sure that when leaving handheld mode,
the screen rotates back to normal. We may also want to keep a preference
for the rotation so that an activity can automatically return to the users
preferred state when re-entering handheld mode (jg proposes a property set
for the activity's window)
These things (and more) will probably fall under the responsibility of the
activities themselves, which is a strong argument for publishing some
specifications in general, and probably a reason for us to consider
creating a basic API for handheld mode in alignment with said spec.
jg recommended setting up some freedesktop standards in this area, and on
a personal note I want to be sure these decisions are also clearly
outlined in our own human interface guidelines.
Feel free to use this ticket to suggest and discus some of these
standards, in hopes that we can compile them in one or more locations once
we have something solid.
