 I'm mostly concerned about process scheduling, signals, etc, while *some*
 form of I/O is going on.

 I certainly don't care all that much about raw scsi, but as you point out,
 wearing out a USB key may be a good way to get some serious bus traffic
 going on through all that.  Simplest thing is just to plug in a usb key
 and let 'er rip.
