to save power; if the screen saver is on for a while, the screen saver
extension is able to tell the dcon to turn off the screen entirely after
 the timeout.

Maybe I'm using the word dcon incorrectly. All I want to do is shut the
screen off (as in black screen after a few minutes idle) - or do you just
want to go to black and white mode?

And you _really_ don't want a screensaver from a power management point of
 view.

I assumed OHM would be the thing that turned the display off rather than a
 session based XScreenSaver type thing.
