The current insert table widget is very intuitive, but only once you've
discovered how to open it. (I clicked on it 5 or 6 times, thinking there
was a bug causing it to immediately disappear.) Since clicking and
dragging is hard for some, impossible for others (and in this case, non-
intuitive), I propose another approach.
A single click on the palette button should cause the palette to appear.
The cancel button in the lower right should remain so that the palette can
be explicitly dismissed. Of course, clicking again on the palette button
itself or outside the palette entirely would also dismiss it, cancelling
the action. With the palette visible, the behavior currently attached to
the drag should happen on rollover, so that a single click on the
appropriate cell will insert a table with the dimensions of the indicated
region.
Finally, I might also recommend that you invert the gray/white. To me,
the gray reads as inactive and the white as active; Also, the white mimics
the color of the cells once the table is actually inserted within the
page.
