 Is this with a manual association or with NetworkManager?  If its with NM,
 try doing manual association with iwconfig and adding an IP address with
 ifconfig, and see if that's any different.  Note that NM will periodically
 scan for wireless networks, which you can duplicate for testing purposes
 using 'iwlist eth0 scan'.
