Comment (by Eben):

It's interesting, the desire to "get the cursor out of the way" is the
main complaint regarding using the edges for frame activation. Thinking
about the nature of the laptop, every activity is inherently fullscreen.
Many fullscreen apps that present media to the user for viewing (DVD
players, photo slideshows, presentations, etc) hide the mouse cursor
automatically after a short delay to prevent the need to tuck it in a
corner. Perhaps, since every activity we have follows this model, we
should be introducing this form of mouse hiding throughout the OS,
eliminating the need for pushing the cursor to the edge and accidentally
 invoking the frame.

The only real argument I can see against this is that the user will have
to touch the trackpad to find out where their mouse is. However, I also
argue that when working consistently on something, we have an intuition
about where we "left the mouse cursor" that doesn't actually require us to
see its position. When we've been away long enough to forget just where
it was, usually we have to move it around to locate its position via
motion anyway, since it's not always easily spottable when stationary.
