 Eben, I'm totally in agreement with you and Christian about the spatial
 mapping.

 Having thought about it a bit more I'm somewhat more positive about the
 implementability of the behavior:

 2) Right now we have invisible windows (1 pixel large) on the edges to
 intercept mouse events. We could make them larger, 20 - 30 pixels should
 be enough so that we get at least a couple of motion events on them and we
 can compute speed.

 3) Might work out as a combination of grabs and mouse buttons status.

 Going back to the design. I'm not sure about 2. I mean, ideally we would
 exploit fitts law for both scrollbars and frame activation. What is the
 rationale behind not activating the frame if the mouse movement is fast?
