 I had this problem.  After taking out the battery and leaving the laptop
 unplugged for a minute or so, it would power up, and I could put the
 battery back in (no charge light).  I'm not sure if the trickle charge
 worked -- it didn't seem to.

 Updating to my firmware to [http://wiki.laptop.org/go/OLPC_Firmware_Q2B73
 Q2B73] fixed the problem.
