Comment:

 Yikes!  It turns out that our brand new power strip was defective (at
 least, the plugs that were used for the OLPCs, ironically our network
 switch was plugged into one of two working plugs).  So, laptops and
 adapters work.  Sorry about the erroneous bug report.
