 So I set a print right before addpath() actually sets the
 os.environ[envvar] variables, and they all seem correct.

 What ''seems'' to be happening is that, if the variable already had
 something else set, my Python is not allowing it to be overridden.  Only
 the ones that didn't already have values (such as GTK_PATH and PYTHON_LIB)
 are successfully set.
