Comment:

 Did you manage to completely discharge the battery in the meanwhile?  If a
 battery is charged to the point it cannot report its status (it has a tiny
 microcontroller in it) to the CPU, the most the machine can do is to
 trickle charge the battery until that microcontroller is again sane,
 before again charging at full speed.

 I also presume you've taken the battery out and put it back in...

 Any information you can add would be helpful!
