Comment:

 By talking with Phil in #sugar, we think this is caused by the copy
 occurring at the same time while still indexing the files on the usb
 stick.

 In joyride and update.1 builds we have already moved to do the indexing in
 an async handler instead of using a thread, so we don't have concurrent
 access to the index that could cause this.

 I still need to verify this theory.
