Comment:

 q2d05 is in the field, about to be placed on thousands of machines.  Is
 this problem restricted to symlinks, or can it occur on any dirent?  Is
 there anyway to ensure that /boot remains bootable after an upgrade?

 I don't think we can close this bug until we know whether we can work
 around it, require an emergency upgrade to q2d06 at brightstar/quanta, or
 must just give up on network upgrade until update.1.
