#1119: Autodiscover RSS not implemented in browser

Comment (by HoboPrimate):
I would argue against launching penguintv when clicking an rss feed, and
use this method instead:
- When rss/atom feeds are detected, the common rss feed icon is presented
somewhere in Browse (could be at the end of the adress bar to follow
convention, or as an usually inactive rss button on the toolbar becoming
active)
- On its rollover menu it would show the various rss feeds available, and
would allow the kid to "Copy to Journal" one of them
- The "feed object" can then be found on the Journal, where it would be
resumed with News Reader.
- From the Journal it could also be copied to the clipboard, and pasted
into an existing News Reader activity
What would this "feed object" be? I think it should the actual xml file,
with the feed adress as meta-data. This way, if kids copied a feed to the
Journal when on the internet, and only resumed it later off-line, it would
already contain some content.
So, my sugestion would be to get autodiscovering of feeds back into
Browse, plug that into a button and a rollover menu pallete, make that
pallete allow to download the xml file itself with the feed adress as
meta-data, make that object be associated with News Reader, and make
NewsReader open that object, subscribing to its meta-data feed adress, and
filling the entries from the xml file.
But then, Im not a programmer, so I can only ask for this kind of
implementation. I think that it would really be helpfull for something
like this to exist for the first release of the XO. Sure, it would be a
convenience improvement (one can copy and paste URLs), but one that would
incentivate kids to subscribe and to create their own rss feeds if it
would be this easy.
