Comment:

 I believe it would tell a lot if we could change the AD1888 on Walter's
 machine. Rafael(added cc) is willing to do that. I am trying to connect
 the 5V Zener at the input and the maximum range of ad1888  - 3.6V. Could
 be a possibility...
