Comment:

It might make sense to extend the toolbar. We have thoughts that trays
may support tabs in the future (though the tabs would appear above, not
below). Trays, in general, will simply be object trays. That is, they
will function just like most edges of the frame, holding a number of icons
each representing an object and having an anchored rollover with various
options that could be specifically designated by the activity, with one of
 those options being "Remove."

The biggest difference between a toolbar and a tray is that each tray can
be associated with a list of mime types which it supports. Drag'n'drop
and other operations will only be available for these advertised mime
types. Activities should have a very simple API for adding and removing
things to and from the tray. The API should include one boolean for
allowing drag'n'drop and a second for allowing re-ordering of objects
 within the tray.

At first glance, I'd suspect that all trays are really "object trays".

As far as scaling goes, I'm really not sure what all the use cases will
be. I'd suspect that trays with 60 or so objects might be expected (5
pages). Less is obviously not a problem; more might be. We've also been
considering the possibility of allowing trays to collapse (hide at the
edge of the screen), and also the possibility of allowing them to be
dragged out like drawers, revealing several rows of objects at once. I'd
place much higher bets on the former than the latter.

Unfortunately I haven't had the chance to see how the control is working
at the moment. This hotel blocks youtube content, so I couldn't view the
video Eduardo sent me. Marco, do you have specific concerns or questions
with how it works at present?
