 I propose that the DS gains ownership of the file passed to checkin(), so
 in the cases where we store the whole file, moving the file would be more
 efficient than copying and removing afterwards.

 In the other cases where we store a diff to an earlier version, the DS
 should remove the file that was passed once the delta has been calculated.
