Comment:

I'm not sure if this is semantically correct, but let me propose
implementing alt-brightnessup and alt-brightnessdown as toggles between
b&w and color modes. They are the most logical buttons to associate with
 the display, for sure.

We could make both brightness keys be on/off toggles, each behaving
identically. Alternatively, we could opt to choose one or the other so
there is no redundancy. We could also use alt-brightnessdown to switch to
b&w and alt-brightnessup to return to color, but I don't see a need to
split these functions into multiple buttons, rather than making them a
toggle. I only suggest making both keys the same so people don't have to
 remember which key it is.

I recommend using the alt modifier because I want to reserve the primary
ctrl modifier for a min and max functionality:

  - ctrl-brightnessdown : backlight off/b&w mode
  - ctrl-brightnessup : full brightness/color mode
  - ctrl-volumedown : mute
  - ctrl-volumeup : full volume

Jim, could you reassign as appropriate?
