 Interesting; the presence service in build 385 was a prototype that's been
 thrown away already and replaced with a much better one, but we'll
 definitely need to make sure that it's also UTF-8 clean.

 Is this a large problem in the field with build 385?  If so, we may need
 to fix it there and respin.
