 The previous analysis was almost correct.  The actual location of the
 spurious characters was the serial input buffer, not the keyboard buffer.
 The problem was that the UART RX line was not being pulled up, so systems
 without a serial dongle were susceptible to crosstalk from the UART TX to
 the UART RX line.

 The correct fix is to turn the UART RX pullup back on.  svn 287

 The fix will appear in Q2C04 or the first official release thereafter.
