New description:
Start with a laptop powered off (doesn't seem to matter if it is plugged
into mains).
Press the power button. The unit starts powering on, and Open Firmware
displays its boot messages. Within a second after open firmware transfers
control to the kernel, the laptop powers off. No power light, no display,
no backlight, no network lights.
The battery charging light will remain lit if is was previously lit.
Pressing the power button again usually brings the unit up fully. I've
never seen this behavior on two consecutive power-ups.
I'm using a B2-7 (SHF705003EA), Q2B85, and build 368, although I've seen
this behavior on other laptops and running earlier builds.
This is happening rather frequently for me (about every sixth to tenth
power on),
although it may be restricted to a subset of machines.
Report the serial numbers of any affected units!!!
