Comment (by ywwg):

I'm attaching three logs. One is various attempts to connect to the wifi
with the bridge on, the other off. When DHCP works, it works very
quickly. I can tell it's not going to work if it tries DHCPDISCOVER four
 times.

If I am having trouble getting dhcp, I either try rmmoding usb8xxx or
 restarting networkmanager.

There seem to be some problems with the "run a few tests" part of your
request. The first time I want to connect to a network, I just have to
click the appropriate icon and it starts blinking. However if I try to
reconnect, either by manually restart networkmanager or by rmmoding
usb8xxx, the mesh view doesn't work correctly. I can still click the
network, but it doesn't start blinking and I don't see any indication in
tail that network manager has seen the signal.

Furthermore, after I restart NM I get duplicates of all my networks
 popping up on the screen.

It looks like I have to restart sugar to restore the proper behavior of
 the mesh view.
