Comment:

There are two points here that require visual feedback:

 1. When the user presses the mouse while over an activity icon (or any
other object, button, etc. for that matter), a visual change should
indicate that the item beneath the cursor is reacting to the press. This
isn't specified yet, but we will certainly have some form of visible
depression via an offset of the icons position and/or a slight color
 change to indicate this.

 2. Once the user has released the mouse button and the activity has "been
launched," there is still a period of time before it becomes active and
takes the screen. Our current design specifies that on rollover an
outline version of the icon should appear in the activity ring. Once
clicked, this outline should fill, and pulsate on a sin curve between gray
and color until it becomes fully active, at which point it should remain
 in full color.

Details on both of these will be spec'd later in the design process, but
this should clear it up for now.
