Comment:

 The intention was for this to be handled by the manufacturing data block.
 Is there some reason why this isn't acceptable?  If for some reason it
 isn't, I do agree that using the IDE port is a fine idea.  Still, to me,
 using the 2KB parameter block would provide far more flexibility, as well
 as the potential for providing far more information to the firmware.
