You should not need to use a keyboard at all to update the firmware on a
BTest system. The upgrade procedure is really quite reliable, if the
files are in the proper place. You may have the "mass_storage/removable"
problem described in the autoreinstallation
page.
Could you please try a different USB keyboard? There are a few keyboards
that do not work properly (the ones we know about have been fixed in later
versions).
It does sound like the keyboard/embedded controller on your unit probably
has trouble. Lindsay Petrillose can help with logistics on a replacement;
we'll likely ask for its return for failure analysis.
