Hey all I'm Alex Keybl, co-founder and chair of OLPC@Duke. I'm a Senior majoring in ECE and CS at Duke University. Sorry for the quick response, but I just got back from a 2 week vacation and I've got a million emails to respond to. Basically, OLPC@Duke has 3 major parts that we work on:

Software Development through independent studies that we've put together (with "open office hours" so that anybody can learn to create activities for the XO)

Running a Pilot Program of XOs at a local elementary school, with qualitative surveys to gauge the success

Planning OLPC Related Events including fundraisers and conferences, such as GrassCon

I'll be watching this list closely, and feel free to email me personally if you have any questions. Thanks.

Hey there

I'm Yifan Sun. I was an IMSA grad 06, and I'm currently a rising Junior at Olin College, like Greg, and majoring in electrical and computer engineering. I'm involved in the university chapter at Olin, and next semester will be working mainly with software developing at Olin. I'm also working on the XO intersession at IMSA, hopefully to be held in Boston. Nice meeting all of you!

My name is Greg Marra. I am a rising Junior at Olin College majoring in Electrical and Computer Engineering. I try to be of assistance when I can, and will likely be taking Olin's "Developing XO Peripherals" course in the fall. I also like to play with XOs, and think they are perfect for writing Python on the subway. I have a few ideas about how to make the XO into a better book reader than it is, but we'll see where those go.

to follow up on that [although i believe most/all of you know me already...], i'm nikki, head of the olin college OLPC chapter. i started this list to get chapters in communication with one another, so that we can share tips, collaborate on projects, and keep one another inspired.

so, olin's plans for the coming school year:
* we are going to be collaborating with a potential pilot school in Cambridge, MA
* there is a 1 credit [3 hr/week; a "normal" class is 4 credits] independent study course on XO peripheral development slated for the fall
* we have a number of students looking into Activity development and are trying to once again get Activity dev incorporated in the Software Design [required ECE course; at least 1/3 of olin's students take it at some point] final project curriculum
* we are looking to organize a jam for the spring [hopefully in collaboration with other boston/cambridge area chapters]
* and of course, keeping in touch with 1CC and keeping the student body up to date on OLPC's happenings
Good evening, all. I'm Andrew Bouchard, and I'm a grad student in
mechanical engineering at Vanderbilt University. Since I'm working on a
Master's thesis soon, I'm not sure how much I'll be able to do, but I'm
on this list because I would love to spread the good new of OLPC and
open source at Vanderbilt, where is doesn't seem to have penetrated yet.
