After all of that, my ride fell to Toronto fell through. I am so sorry I was unable to make it. Hope everything went well. How long are you in Canada for; I am in Montreal but will be going to Ottawa briefly next week. I would love to discuss the OLPC programs in Haiti, and the child rights content they have/ that we have the potential to use them to express. I am very interested in working on creating some child rights advocacy and education programs as well as in applying the XO laptop as an educational and communications tool. I will be returning to Haiti at the end of January 2012 and during my time there, will be in the process of establishing a transitional safe house to provide therapy, care and integration for child victims of abuse, neglect, slavery and homelessness. I will also be strengthening programs in family support, school access and quality, as well as human rights education. It would be an incredible opportunity if we could meet and discuss the potential of XO laptops being incorporated into these programs.

Just let me know where you are going to be in the next couple months or when you may be available to talk. We could always try to meet in Haiti [I'll be there from the end of January until August 2012] or discuss this on the phone.

Thanks so much and I hope the BBQ went well. I really wish I could have made it.

Many have asked if they can bring food/drink-- NOT required! Sure
if you want, but far more useful would be a *LARGE* old travel bag
or 2 to carry donations to Haiti!

We only can use one or two...so RSVP if you have one and we'll check
    dimensions.

Bring some change for our TOONIE jar as well! :-)

(Perfect weather's expected for Sunday's Garden BBQ tomorrow, just
bring Haiti/Kenya questions & see ya soon =)

       Hope
to see you all Sunday 4-9pm, when it looks like we may have 30
          or more in the end!

(Rides are indeed available from Toronto and Waterloo -- please
reply ASAP if you did not receive the map I emailed to all who
        RSVP'd)

We have 25 RSVPs already, I can't wait to meet so many
Canadians committed to giving others a fighting chance!

REMINDER: if you'd like a full invitation with address and
directions, the volunteers who are organizing and paying for
our Elora Garden BBQ just request you send me a bit more about
          your interests in OLPC.

Two sentences in a private mail suffice!
          Background/interests/talents/whatever. (Whether or not you
are interested in volunteering overseas or in person, that is
OK. Of course if you are interested, don't hesitate to send
your resume to volunteer at laptop.org)

PS I'd also ask you please send me your phone number and rough
location privately, as we are organizing rides from Toronto
          and Waterloo, thanks :)

A quite unbelievable group of OLPC social entrepreneurs and
volunteers working in Kenya, Haiti, South American, Central
America (and Canada!) have clustered around Toronto and
Southern Ontario in recent years, and are now coming
together to discuss the very latest around all 3 "current"
            generations of laptops (XO-1, XO-1.5 and XO-1.75).

And of course the latest insider rumors on the upcoming XO-3
            tablet!

What an important time for Canada's Best to kick back and
reflect on what's really emerging from our
almost-4-year-effort now, providing free and open software
making exploratory learning happen. Among the world's
poorest chidren, inside schools and far beyond -- across so
many nations, one kid at a time... SAVE THE DATE SUNDAY SEPT
            18!

All are most welcome to join us if you reply -- that means
everyone, Intl Development specialists, curriculum experts,
and...teachers into technology especially! We just ask
you to RSVP for the address of the private garden and
farmhouse where this will be hosted, thanks =)

                OLPC Community BBQ

                Sunday, Sept 18

                4-9PM

                Elora, Ontario

That's 1+ hr West of Toronto, or 15+ min drive NE of
Waterloo, or 15+ min drive NW of Guelph. Thanks and hope to
            see you there!!
