I'm not sure what you mean.

If you mean the touchpad mechanism, it depends on the model.  Some of
them detect the presence of a finger by changes to resistance, some by
changes in capacitance.

If you mean the arrow keys on the keyboard, they generate key sequences
to allow applications to move cursor or objects.  Changing a journal
entry name or entering a URL in Browse, for example, the left and right
arrow keys can be used.

If you mean the arrow keys to the left of the display, these have
various purposes according to the activity being run.  You should try
them to see what they do; this is what we expect children to do.

If you think an activity could benefit from control through one of these
interface elements ... and it doesn't respond, then there may be an
opportunity to raise this as a feature request.
