I agree with Luke, the star is next to each journal entry, it is either
filled or empty.

When in the journal, the state can be changed by clicking on it.

The journal also has a large star at the top.  When clicked, this
filters the journal display to only show entries that have stars.

The Read activity allows the user to change the star state of the
document being read.
