Disclaimer: I'm just an user, not a developer.

Tabitha, my feel is that the principal problem is with the
dependencies upon the system on which the iso conversion is run.
[So far, the error messages have been coming from the conversion
tools.] The same problem as yours happened also for me even when I
tried to convert another iso (not the 'beta').

I believe the 'livecd-iso-to-xo.sh' script was written to be run on
a Fedora system. I do not have Fedora (nor Windows) - only Ubuntu.
For me, the script fails the same way as yours did - on both
Intrepid and Jaunty. [I had hoped Jaunty would do better - the
'dmesg' line says "SQUASHFS error: Please update your kernel". But
Jaunty fails also.]

For me, at least the 'livecd-iso-to-disk.sh' completed on Intrepid
(despite very similar error messages). But now that I've upgraded
to Jaunty, that script fails as well -- leaving me without a way to
test any new Soas2 builds from SugarLabs.
