Hi,
After a schedule discussion with Quanta this morning, we have new mass
production assembly dates that allow us to adjust the schedule for Trial-3
software. Trial-3 is beta-level SW that should have no blocking bugs, no
regressions from the Trial-2 code, and it will include activation, robust
upgrades, backup and restore from the school server, and a solid (frozen)
mesh protocol api. We're hoping to get many bug fixes in as well, but not
many other features. Please see the roadmap for more details: (
https://dev.laptop.org/roadmap

Here is the new schedule taken right from the roadmap:

   - Feature Freeze, 8/27/07
   - Code Freeze, 9/10/07
   - Release to Quanta, 9/21/07
   - Final release to Quanta for MP, 9/28/07

NOTE: This gives us 2 more weeks (from the original date of 8/13) to get to
feature freeze for Trial-3. After discussions with many groups this week,
this time will be well used in order to try and meet the goals that are
listed in the road map. I still need a more detailed schedule for mesh
protocol updates (Dafydd is providing), activation with crypto, and robust
upgrades (from Ivan) to be sure they can fit into this new schedule.

I'll be away next week so please work with Jim to provide updates and
progress.

Kim
