[sugar] icon assistance/validation

Sorry for the string of emails...

It occurred to me that the reason it is currently specified as a
directory is because I originally created the script with *only* the
multiple export use case in mind.  I'm not sure how to reconcile the
behavior of the two cases with respect to specifying an output
file/dir.
