Subject: new paste.fedoraproject.org web application
To: announce at lists.fedoraproject.org
Greetings.
Users of our pastebin service (https://paste.fedoraproject.org) will
note that it's look, feel and functionality has all changed (we hope
for the better!).
A pastebin is a application that you can access either via web browser
( https://paste.fedoraproject.org ) or command line client (fpaste) to
upload text content and then share the link to others to read that
content.
We have moved from using an application called 'sticky-notes' to a
application called 'modern-paste'. There is a number of reasons for this
change, including:
* sticky-notes is no longer developed upstream.
* sticky-notes only uses mysql/mariadb for it's backend database
* sticky-notes is written in some php frameworks that none of our team
knows well.
modernpaste is well maintained upstream, can use postgresql (as we
prefer) and is written in python. We hope to expand it soon to
authenticate Fedora users, and allow things like images and other
attachments.
The current fpaste command line client will continue to work via a
gateway we have setup. A new version of fpaste will move to the native
modern-paste API. In a year or so we will disable the gateway after all
non EOL Fedora releases have moved to the new fpaste client.
For any questions or concerns, feel free to mail the Fedora
infrastructure list ( infrastructure at lists.fedoraproject.org ) or file
a ticket: https://pagure.io/fedora-infrastructure/issues/
Improvements to the upstream modern-paste project can be made at:
