HD speeds won't make any noticeable difference.

Your bottlenecks are

 - RAM
 - HD access -- split the load across more disks. Specifically: put
PostgreSQL data in a separate disk.
 - RAM! :-)
 - HD!
 - RAM
 - (repeat on RAM and HD several times...)
 - CPU
