Jerry,
Thanks for the testimonial.
I have rsnapshot up and running for XF backing up the following
directories:
/etc
/root
/var/log
I created, modified and deleted files to test out the various conditions.
I put the /etc/rsnapshot.conf here:
http://wiki.laptop.org/go/User:Az990tony/backup
My thinking now is that each machine will run rsnapshot as follows:
* XF will backup its own /etc, /root, /var/log, plus the etc-root-var/log
files of XS and XB
* XS will backup its own /etc, /root, /var/log, plus the etc-root-var/log
files of XF and XB
* XB will backup its own /etc, /root, /var/log plus other major
directories of XF and XS
The full backup of /etc-/root-/var/log has only been 24MB. Very small.
The scheme is now: 3 hourly, 5 daily, 4 weekly, 3 monthly
* hourly backups will be taken at 9am, noon, 3pm local time.
* daily backup will be taken M/T/W/Th/F at 8:45am
* weekly backup will be taken on Wednesday at noon
* monthly backup will be taken on first weekday of the month, at noon
It would be good to know the electricity schedule (what days, what hours,
is electricity available)?
Also the school schedule. I am assuming standard M-F, but know that some
countries have
their week set up differently. Do the days, weeks and times seem
reasonable?
Items still to work on:
* remote backup across SSH between servers.
* backup of MySQL
* backup of /var/www/html Apache infrastructure
* identification of installed modules, applications
* scripts to convert XB into XF to bring it into the system as the XF
* scripts to convert XB into XS to bring it into the system as the XS
* scripts to restore any machine from a base XS-150 pointing to another
server with backups
Thanks
